Mentawai surfboat

Huey Newsleter Chrissy 2008

Hi There Everyone, Well its been a while since our last newsletter so there’s been quite a bit happening of late. With so many charters this year the boat was put to the test and as always she came through with flying colours.

Our trip North to the Banyaks and beyond was an absolute corker. The first 5 days we couldn’t put a foot wrong and the Yallingup and Perth lads scored some of the best waves we had all year. Unfortunately the Dunsborough lads weren’t so lucky on the next trip and we ended up canceling our North run and scoring a few waves in the Mentawais instead.

Next up were the lads from Wynnum. Their first trip back in 2006 was one of the best trips we had ever had as far as perfection went so the boys were amped and we were worried that this trip might pale in comparison but the wave gods smiled on these bunch of mad buggers from Qld and it absolutely pumped. The beer record was smashed on this trip with the new tally at 68 cartons and 13 odd bottles of the hard stuff. I’ve never seen a bunch literally drink all night and surf all day. Reminds me of the 90’s!

August saw a quiet month for waves as Nev filled in for me while I had a trip off. The next trip welcomed a new crew of Perth lads known as the Gazzard Boardriders, their name taken from the old cult bogan movie ‘Running on Empty’ and it was a classic trip. Waves weren’t epic but the guys were just keen to wash off some city living and Huey proved to be the perfect cleanser.

Stinky Penrose jumped on board with Mattty from Perth and Ads from Margs in September. Pen managed to break Captain Americas longstanding Trevally record if only by a kilo but that didn’t last long as 3 weeks later yours truly landed a whopper 31kg beast that had the little Penn real screaming its head off. Team America along with Boonga and an assorted bunch scored all time Maccas with memorable sessions elsewhere as well. The last trip of the year with Stu Black and the North Coast lads capped off an 18 trip season which will be hard to top again.

With the economic downturn a lot of boats are struggling for bookings but Huey has kept the prices in Aussie dollars so we’ll be out there again sourcing the best spots to get you the best waves on offer. Huey’s off to Phuket on the 5 th Jan for a major heart transplant. Yep the old Detroits are getting the boot and upgrading with some fresh Nissan V8s. Good chance there will be a 7 – 9 day charter coming back down to Padang mid March so drop us an email if you’re interested. The team at Huey wishes everyone an awesome Chrissy and a Tubular New Year. Until next time Happy Surfing,

Sooly and the Huey team…………..
